How to make Dutch Baby Pancakes

A Dutch pancake is a large pancake baked in a hot oven. The sides of the pancake rise above the edges of the pan, while the center remains tender and egg-shaped. They can be served sweet or savory. This apple version is sweet, but if you’re looking for a savory version, we’ve got this delicious dutch baby Baked with loads of ham and cheese. Amazing.

The dough is made of flour, milk, eggs and sugar, then we wrap it with ground cinnamon and cardamom. When baking, spoon hot seasoned apples on top. This apple hollandaise baby recipe doubles as breakfast or dessert and is definitely a must.

When we first tried making Dutch baby pancakes, we realized how easy it was to whip up in less than five minutes, pour into a pan, and bake in a hot oven until puffy.

This extra-large Dutch pancake doubles as a breakfast or dessert. It’s best served family-style, with butter and spiced apples. The cinnamon, cardamom and apple trio is one of our favorites. Substitute more cinnamon or add one a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg.

Since ovens can vary slightly in temperature, it’s a good idea to check the Dutch baby after 15 minutes of baking. If the sides are puffy and starting to brown, you can turn the oven down to 300 degrees a few minutes earlier. We like that the edges of the sides should be dark brown, but not burnt.

Makes 3 to 4 servings

You will need it

Dutch baby pancake

3 large eggs

1/2 cup (65 g) all-purpose flour

1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

1 teaspoon of sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

3 tablespoons of butter

2 slices of lemon

Powdered sugar for topping

Apples with cinnamon

2 medium apples, cored and thinly sliced

1 tablespoon of butter

2 teaspoons of sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Directions:

1:Place an oven rack in the bottom third of the oven and make sure there is enough space above it for the pancake to rise above the pan 425°F (218°C).

2:Beat the egg, flour, milk, 1 teaspoon of sugar, cinnamon and cardamom until smooth. You can also use a blender.

3:Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a 10-inch heavy skillet over medium heat. Swirl the melted butter around the pan. When it’s bubbling, pour in the batter.Pour the bacon and cheese into the center of the pan, leaving about 1 inch of the batter uncovered to allow the batter to puff up the sides of the pan as it bakes.

4:Slide into the oven and bake until puffed and golden, 16 to 20 minutes 300°F (148°C) and cook for another 5 minutes to set completely.

5:00While the Dutchman is cooking, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook, tossing them around the pan, until the apples are soft still a little creaky.

6:00Serve family style with cinnamon apples, lemon juice and a little powdered sugar dusted on top.
