Main ingredients:
- Tofu: Use extra tofu for this recipe as it holds up well in the pan and pan. Firm tofu should be fine if that’s all you have.
- Oil. We submerge the tofu fingers in avocado oil because it has a high smoke point. Higher heat oil or vegetable oil is also fine.
- Flour: We use almond flour (sometimes called almond meal) to keep this gluten free, but plain all flour is fine.
- Spices. I keep them simple and use garlic powder, salt and pepper, but you can mix in more spices or seasonings if you want more flavor. Any all-purpose seasoning added to the flour would be great.
- Egg. After rolling the tofu fingers in flour, I drizzle them with beaten eggs. If you want to make this recipe egg-free, you can substitute lightly beaten Aquafabaplant-based plain yogurt, or Vegan mayoA series
- Cereals or breads. We wanted to keep this recipe gluten free, so we use a gluten free porridge like rice flour.
How to Make Crispy Tofu Fingers
These tofu fingers or nagits are easy to make at home. You’ll want to press your tofu first, removing any excess moisture. Thinner slabs speed up the pressing process so you can go with dinner.

Next, you need a baking station: flour and spices in one vessel, beaten eggs (or your egg-free substitute) in another, and finally, crushed porridge or breadcrumbs.

You roll each tofu finger in flour, dip it in the batter (or breadcrumbs), then place it in the hot oil and cook it until golden brown and crispy. From there, you can serve it with your favorite dipping sauces that’s it Homemade ketchupAUTHORITY

My family devours these crispy baked tofu fingers. We roll tofu in egg, then roll it in ground rice porridge. Thanks to almond flour and porridge, you can substitute almond flour for all purpose for flour and cereal grains.
